Tranent is home. George has run the business from the town since 1989, so when you call us you are calling a joiner who lives and works here, not someone travelling in from the city. It is now 37 years trading, and George works alongside his son Ross.

Tranent has a real mix of homes, and that shapes the work. We might be replacing tired internal doors and skirtings in an older house one week, and fitting wardrobes, shelving and a kitchen in a newer home the next.

Joinery for Tranent homes, old and new

Homes in Tranent range from older stone cottages and former council houses to the newer estates around the edge of town. Each tends to ask for different things. Older houses often need doors, skirtings, timber windows and floors put right, while newer homes usually want storage and finishing touches that make the space work for the family.

The centre of town, around Church Street and High Street, is a conservation area, and there are listed buildings in that part of Tranent. If your home is listed or sits in the conservation area, changes to windows, doors or the outside of the house may need consent from East Lothian Council. Tell us at the estimate and we will explain what to check before work starts.

Kitchen fitting, fitted wardrobes and loft conversions in Tranent

Most of our Tranent work falls into a few areas: kitchen fitting, bespoke fitted furniture, doors and windows, renovations including bathrooms and flooring, loft and garage conversions, and decking. You can see the full list on our services page.

Fitted furniture is where a local joiner earns his keep, because no two rooms are the same. One customer, Helen Robertson, said: "My ideas for a fitted wardrobe started out on the back of envelope but George interpreted them perfectly and found ideal solutions for the awkward bits." That is how we like to work, starting from your ideas and making them fit the room.

Questions from Tranent homeowners.

Do you work in Tranent?

Yes. We are based in Tranent and work here regularly. George will come out, measure up and give you a clear written estimate, free of charge. We also cover nearby towns across East Lothian, so if you are just outside Tranent, give George a call on 07860 211 815.

Do I need a building warrant for joinery work in Tranent?

Most like-for-like jobs such as new kitchens, wardrobes and internal doors do not need one. Loft and garage conversions and structural changes usually do, through East Lothian Council's building standards team. We will tell you whether your job needs one when we give you the estimate.

Can you work on a listed building or a home in the Tranent conservation area?

Yes, but extra rules can apply. Listed buildings may need listed building consent, and changes to the outside of homes in a conservation area can need approval from East Lothian Council. Check with the council first, and tell us about it at the estimate so we can plan the work properly.

Can you fit wardrobes and storage into awkward spaces?

Yes. Fitted wardrobes, alcove units, shelving and under-stair storage are a big part of what we do, and they are made to suit the room rather than bought off the shelf. Sloping ceilings, chimney breasts and odd corners are all things we deal with regularly.

How do I get a quote from a joiner in Tranent?
